ICIAM 2019, the 9th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics, took place last 15th/19th of July in Valencia, Spain. ICIAM 2019, as for the previous editions (held every four years), has been the perfect spot to provide broad visibility to the most recent advances in industrial and applied mathematics with a wide coverage of interdisciplinary related subjects and other disciplines as well as to tangibly demonstrate benefits and applicability of such disciplines to the science, engineering and industry domain.
The event addressed a huge spectrum of young researchers, graduate students and postdocs, enabling them to discover the great potential of applied mathematics and to keep track of the latest trends and developments.
Stefano de Gironcoli, Professor of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at SISSA and member of MaX Consortium, held an invited talk titled "Global Minimization vs Self-Consistent Solutions in Electronic Structure Calculations" within the Minisymposium "Recent advances in electronic structure calculations - Part 1".
Alberto Garcia, member of the "Laboratory of ELectronic Structure Materials" at the Institut de Ciencia de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), part of the Max Consortium, held an invited talk titled "New features and performance improvements in the SIESTA code" within the parallel session "Recent advances in electronic structure calculations - Part 2 of 3"
