Training material
The MaX Centre of Excellence is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the first major event of the year 2020, the Computational School on Electronic Excitations in Novel Materials Using the Yambo Code. The school is taking place from January 27 to January 31, 2020 at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste.
The Computational School on Electronic Excitations in Novel Materials Using the Yambo Code will introduce participants to post-DFT simulations, in particular to many-body perturbation theory (MBPT) approaches and will provide training in the calculation of electronic and optical properties of materials.
The program will offer theoretical and technical lectures, as well as dedicated hands-on sessions where the students will learn to use the Yambo code in a massively parallel environment and how to run post-processing tools for the analysis of the results. The course will cover a wide range of topics, from introductory lessons on MBPT concepts to more advanced issues in materials science. General subjects include the diagrammatic approach, self-energy and quasiparticles, the GW approximation, linear response, and the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Strong focus is given on connection with experimental observables (from photoemission to absorption and photoluminescence). Advanced topics will address real-time spectroscopies, time-dependent polarization in terms of the Berry phase, computation of non-linear optical properties.
In order to take part in the school, students are required to have a pre-existing background in DFT methods, including experience in running first principles simulations. Female scientists are encouraged to apply. Due to the hands-on nature of the School, the number of participants is limited to the capacity of the Adriatico Informatics Lab.

Grants:
A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries. Please note that there is no registration fee.
Thanks to the generous contribution of the MaX CoE and Psi-K, accommodation in double room is provided at the ICTP Guest Houses for all participants. Participants can eventually upgrade their accommodation to a single room according to the ICTP Guest House rates, at their own cost.
